Weight Loss Franchise

This business had been around in the Vancouver area for about 3 years.  The owners owned several stores / outlets.  They not only sold weight loss products but they also had consultants on hand to help customers achieve their weight loss goals.   Their bookkeeping was being done in house and by someone that could not keep up with that function.  They needed someone with experience to handle their bookkeeping and was available for a few days a week to help them get caught up with their bookkeeping.

I brought the company’s file up-to-date.  The owner of the business looked over the financial statements and felt that the sales tax was more than he thought s/b.  So I looked everything over and could not find anything wrong.  I was looking at their spreadsheets that the owners did up so they could see what products were selling / not selling and I noticed that they had included the sales tax 2x without their noticing it.  I brought it to their attention and corrected the situation.  Thus a savings of over $300,000.00.

Online Store

This was a client that had a corporate online store that was selling Audio / Video furniture at first which then lead to many other products to sell online.  They were in need of a bookkeeper for a few days a week.   The bookkeeping had not been done at all and this growing business had 10 people on staff at that time and the owners were doing the payroll.   While working on this company’s file I noticed that they did not have Workers Compensation.  I brought it to the owner’s attention and explained what that was for.  He immediately signed up for this.

With this same business, I noticed that they had Deferred Revenue and brought it to the owner’s attention.  They had no idea what that was and again explained what it was and saved them over $250,000.00 in taxable income for that year.

Moving Company Training

This moving company was in need of a bookkeeper to work on their business going forward.  They were a sole proprietorship that was struggling to do their own bookkeeping.  They had a few people on staff that were only Casual Labour as the jobs they had did not require full time staff. 

They had renovated their basement to make more improved office space and had asked me to have a look at what they had done and to give them some input.  I recalculated the amount of home / office space and noticed that they had some new equipment for training purposes and thereby saved them over $1,000.00 on equipment write-offs.
